Implant Dentures
While dentures are always custom made for the best fit and greatest comfort, they are loose and require some practice for the wearer to become accustomed to them and learn how to keep in place when talking or eating.
Lower dentures, or full bottom dentures, are particularly prone to a lot of movement in some patients, despite the best efforts of dental prosthetists. This is not an ideal situation, since the purpose of dentures is not only to replace missing teeth, but to also allow you to eat, smile, and talk with confidence. The same way you did when you had all your original teeth. If this is a problem you are concerned about, or are experiencing with your current traditional dentures, implant dentures could be the optimal solution.
Make an EnquiryWhat are Implant Dentures?
Implant dentures use the same technology used for single tooth implants, but with two to six implants used instead. The number of implants depends on whether you are being fitted for a removable implant denture, or a fixed implant denture. The titanium posts implanted in the jaw allow partial or full dentures to be fixed in place, either temporarily or permanently, and stopping the denture from moving about.
The Implant Dentures Process
Regardless of whether you opt for a removable implant denture or a fixed implant denture, the process begins with an initial consultation at Unique Denture Clinic, at either our Watsonia or Leopold practice. This allows us to discuss the procedure with you in more detail, and to assess your needs.
Unique Denture Clinic does not perform any surgery, but we do work with the best dental professionals across Victoria, enabling us to refer you to a dental professional that is most suited to your unique needs, and conveniently located close to where you live. Any surgery necessary for the implants will be carried out by your chosen dental professional under either local or general anaesthetic, with Unique Denture Clinic taking care of the preparation and fitting of your dentures once the implants have healed. The total time from initial consultation to final fitting of the dentures varies but will be discussed with you during your first consultation. Your smile is unique, and we would not want to rush the process of giving you the perfect smile again.
Types of Implant Dentures
Unique Denture Clinic in Watsonia and Leopold offer two types of implant dentures, removable and fixed. The process for each type of implant differs considerably, as does the healing time needed between the implant surgery and the fitting of the dentures. If you are unsure which type of implant denture is best for you, we will discuss the benefits, process, and cost of each with you during your first consultation, ensuring you have sufficient information about each option to make a properly informed choice. Regardless of which option you choose, you will be fitted with temporary dentures until you are ready for your final set of dentures.
Removable Implant Denture
As the name suggests, removable implant dentures are not permanently fixed in place, and you can take them out and put them back in whenever you want. Depending on whether you are being fitted for a partial or full denture, two to four implants will be placed in specific locations in your jaw. Once the implants have healed, you will be fitted with a denture that includes an attachment which allow the dentures to clip onto the implants, holding the denture in place more securely than traditional dentures.
Removable implant dentures are a more cost effective solution than fixed implant dentures, but while they are more secure than traditional dentures, movement is not completely eliminated.

Commonly referred to as All on 4, fixed implant dentures follow a pioneering process developed by Nobel Biocare. Four to six implants are placed in your jaw, with some going in straight, and some angled up to 45 degrees. This eliminates the need for bone grafting, and significantly reduces the healing time needed before your final set of dentures can be fitted.
Fixed implant dentures are ideal for patients requiring a full set of dentures, and are designed to last a very long time, with minimal need for relining or adjustments. Unlike removable implant dentures, they are fixed in place permanently and can only be removed by a dental professional.
